The Atlantica Study is being carried out to determine the degree of cultural similarity that exists between Canadian and American neighbours on the northeast seaboard of North America. Previous research has indicated that the Canadian Atlantic provinces and New England are culturally distinct from other parts of Canada and the United States, while being similar to each other. This study is designed to further investigate that assumption.
A certain amount of hype has surrounded the notion of a trading zone called Atlantica. Attention has been paid to the concept of Atlantica again and again throughout the years. For more information about the argument as to why Atlantica should be created into a contiguous trading zone read the article about Atlantica at the Atlantic Institute of Market Studies (AIMS).
If you received an email link to this website you are invited to complete the survey at the link below. The email request was made of firms competing in Atlantic Canada and New England who also compete in, or service, the tourism and hospitality industries. As cultural industries, those working within the tourism industry provide an ideal opportunity to explore cultural similarities and differences.
Anyone in your organization can complete the survey. Only one submission may be sent from each computer (IP address). However, you may circulate the survey at will and complete it as desired from different IP addresses. All that is required is that you live, and work, in Atlantica (Atlantic Canada or the New England states). The deadline for completion is August 10, 2005. Results of the study will be uploaded to this website at a later date.
If you wish to proceed with the survey please click on the Atlantic Survey link. The survey will take approximately five to ten minute to complete. If you do not wish to proceed, thank you for visiting this website and have a great day!
Sincerely,
Prof. Karen A. Blotnicky, Department of Business and Tourism Mount Saint Vincent University, Halifax, NS Canada and Doctoral Student at Northcentral University, Arizona, USA.
